A group of us Internet marketing city folks made the journey to SE Tennessee on June 12th to ride the rapids!

Latron Thorne organized Saturday’s event, with a dozen people taking the plunge and riding the 5-mile gauntlet over Grade 2-4 rapids on the Ocoee River, site of the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Whitewater events. Afterward, we all drove north to Cupid’s Cove log cabin in Coker Creek, TN to spend some quality Bar-B-Q time together.

Special guides from the Ocoee Adventure Center did a great job getting us downstream alive, and we thank them!  They get to do this 2-3 times per day, from March to November.  Whatta crew!

Donny Gamble

Donny Gamble has the heart of a teacher.  Several weeks ago I checked out his straightforward IM courses, and learned quite a bit!  That’s the reason I’m having him as guest on my radio show tonight at 6 pm ET. Jesse Roberson

Jesse Roberson, a Computer Science major at Georgia State University, has joined Logical Soul LLC as an Intern.  Beginning this summer, Jesse will be heading up online marketing and promotions.

“I really look forward to applying my studies in such a practical way,” said Jesse during a recent interview.  “I was impressed with the style and substance of what Dr. Craig was doing, and thought it would be a great source of learning and inspiration.  I went to the meetup the other night, and it was awesome.”

The 23-year old Mr. Roberson, currently lives in Smyrna, but was born in Douglas, GA and received his Eagle Scout award in 2002.  He has an Australian Shepard dog named Mason, and enjoys a wide variety of activities from art to fishing.

Sam Owosolu

Social Marketing Workshop

If you are as old as I am (few people are these days) do you remember sales training where you learned to stick your foot in the door,  talk a lot, guide the conversation, overcome objections, and push the product before they got buyer’s remorse?  I do.

Consequently, I used to think (and rightfully so at the time) that the words “selling” and “marketing” were bad words.  Thankfully I found out the definition has really CHANGED in this age of the Internet and Social media!

This past weekend, I had the privilege of spending quality time with some of the premier Social Media (Social Marketing) experts in the country.  Gina Gaudio-Graves, Ron Capps, and Mike Wesely shared their success stories, love and wisdom with a small group of us gathered at the Defoor Center in Atlanta – an event sponsored by online marketer, Phil Cullum.

The biggest thing I walked away with is this:  Selling online (or off-line)

 does not mean pushing stuff onto people they don’t want.  Selling and social marketing means connecting with the customer first, getting lots of feedback, customizing products and services based on this feedback, and delivering them in a way that really serves the customer. 

 The Internet has transformed the way we do business into a much more customer-oriented community.  By getting to know each other as friends and associates, “marketing” becomes simply another word for social networking and connecting heart-to-heart.
